Answer:

An optical fibre is used to transmit a light signal over a long distance without the loss of energy. However some energy gets lost due to absorption of light in its material.

Answer:

Explanation:

OPTICAL FIBRE:

fiber optics , or optical fiber refers to the technology that transmits information as light pulses along a glass or plastic fiber .a fiber optic cable can obtain a varying number of these glass fiber from a few up to couple hundred another glass layer called cladding ,surrounds the glass fiber core .

Working principle of optical fibre:

Light travels down a fiber optic cable by bouncing repeatedly off the walls .Each tiny photon ( particle of light) bounces down the pipe like bobsleigh going down an ice run Now you might expect a beam of light ,travelling in a clear glass pipe simply to leak out of the edges .but if light hits glass at a really shallow angle (less than 42 degree) it reflects back in again - as though the glass were really a mirror This phenomenon is called total internal reflection .Its one of the things that keeps light inside the pipe

optical fiber works on the principle of total internal reflection when light travelling in an optically dense medium hits a boundary at a step angle

Uses of optical fiber:

Optical fiber are hallow , flexible ,transparent , tube like wires made from plastic or glass and have a very small diameter.

Optical fiber are used to transmit light and predominantly used in fiber optic communication because they facilities transmission over longer distance and at higher bandwidth levels.
