The correct option is- (a) Both the statements are true and statement (ii) is the correct explanation of statement (i).

  • In clayey soil, the particle size is very small with low porosity. Hence, it can retain a large amount of water. It is very fertile soil and is rich in organic matter (humus).
  • The cultivation of wheat also requires soil having good water holding capacity and rich organic matter. Hence, it is grown in clayey soil.
