LAW OF CONSERVATION OF MOMENTUM.

  The law of conservation of momentum states that:

"when some bodies constituting an isolated system act upon 
one another, the total momentum of the system remains constant."

When resultant external force acting on a system is zero, the total linear momentum of the system is constant.Or when no external force acts on system of bodies and there is collision among them then the total linear momentum before collision equals to total momentum after collision..
