Statistics are figures, but all figures are not statistics. This statement is that of a paradoxical nature.

Basically statistics are numeric data, they are symbols and figures. They are used to make assumptions and calculate and do analysis. Statistics in itself is not just a word, there is a whole discipline accompanied by this word. It deals with frequencies, data, analysis or data, common predictions and patterns. Whereas, on the other hand, figures are purely numbers, they are numeric form of data. They do not need to be gathered and there is no necessity proven for numbers as figures to be gathered and analysed, so they may differ from the approach of statistics.

Since number is included in the statistics, it becomes micro, its a sub set of statistics. So all numbers can be statistics but all figures cannot be statistics. Because various figures vary, and statistics are those which can be verified.

Statistics are systematic and organized collection of numerical facts and you can find only numerical items or information in the statistics.

People can show different statistical data to analyze the overall performance such as on employment, literacy rate and population data.

But figures can considered as the statistics when they related to some particular variables such as time person and numerical database.

So statistics are numerical figures, but all figures are not statistics.
