Since 6 terms are given so n=6,
So, Median for even number of data will be
value at position n/2 = A+2
value at position ( n/2 ) + 1 = A+6
Median = average of ( value at position n/2 , value at position ( n/2 ) + 1 )
= average of ( A+2 , A+6 )
= ( A+2 + A+6 ) / 2
= ( 2A + 8 ) / 2
= A + 4
But given that median is 39
So, 39 = A + 4
A = 35
So, values become
31 , 33 , 37 , 41 , 45 , 53
Mean = sum of all values / no. of values
Mean = (31 + 33 + 37 + 41 + 45 + 53) / 6
Mean = 240 / 6
Mean = 40
So, Median for even number of data will be
value at position n/2 = A+2
value at position ( n/2 ) + 1 = A+6
Median = average of ( value at position n/2 , value at position ( n/2 ) + 1 )
= average of ( A+2 , A+6 )
= ( A+2 + A+6 ) / 2
= ( 2A + 8 ) / 2
= A + 4
But given that median is 39
So, 39 = A + 4
A = 35
So, values become
31 , 33 , 37 , 41 , 45 , 53
Mean = sum of all values / no. of values
Mean = (31 + 33 + 37 + 41 + 45 + 53) / 6
Mean = 240 / 6
Mean = 40
