Both have a rotor. In the DC machine it is also called the armature. It is cylindrical and has a shaft though its axis. It is usually laminated steel with winding slots.Both have a stator. This is a hollow cylinder. Also laminated steel although in a DC machine it may be solid steel. Also has a set of windings embedded in it.The rotor has bearings on each end and spins inside the stator.
