Steam can react with metal and nonmetal to liberate hydrogen.Give necessary conditions and equations for the same?

Answer:

The metals which are having low reactivity are able to react with steam.And these metals when reacts with the steam they give oxide of the metals and also generate hydrogen gas.

The examples of such kind of reaction will be :

Mg + H2O (g) -> MgO + H2.

2Fe + 3H2O (g) -> Fe2O3 + 3H2.

While we also know that the non-metals have no reaction and does not react with steam. Hence, there is no change in the reaction when the non-metals get reacted with steam.
