Steam nozzles are used in many process applications for increasing the kinetic energy of fluids. In a steam power plant, nozzles are used to enhance the velocity of the steam at the inlet of steam turbines. At the inlet to a certain nozzle, the enthalpy of fluid passing is 1400 kJ/kg and the velocity is 1500 m/min. At the discharge, the enthalpy of the steam is 1200 kJ/kg.
Accomplish the following design attributes of the nozzle:
i. Draw a neat diagram of nozzle on indicating the available data from the above
ii. The exit velocity of the nozzle
iii. Mass flow rate (if the inlet area is 90000 mm2 & specific volume at inlet is 177000 cm3/kg)
iv. Exit area of the nozzle in m2 and cm2 (if the specific volume at the nozzle exit is 0.522 m3/kg).
(Assume the nozzle is horizontal and there is negligible heat loss from it).
