steel sinks in water but a steel boat floats.why?

flotation is depends on the surface area of the given objects . steel rods has a small surface area as compare to steel boat that's why boat flow's on water and steel do not..

The density of steel is more than water so it sink but in case of steel boat the structure of boat there is air present inside the boat so it doesn't sink
