Like other Gramineae, the root system of rice is relatively shallow, especially under flooded conditions (95% of the roots are found in the top 0 to 0.2 m of soil). Stems: The stem is composed of a series of nodes and internodes. ... The shorter the lower internodes, the more resistant the plant will be to lodging.

Answer:

The  root system of rice plants consists of two main types: apical roots (including carpet roots) and node roots. In fact, both of these roots grow from nodes, but apical roots grow from nodes below the soil surface.  Roots grow from nodes in the ground, commonly known as nodal roots. Panax ginseng root is commonly found in rice varieties that grow at water depths greater than 80 cm.  Most rice varieties reach a maximum depth of 1 m or more in soft upland soils. However, in wetlands, rice roots rarely exceed a depth of 40 cm. This is largely due to the limited diffusion of  O2 across the root air spaces (parenchyma) to supply the growing root tips.
