Roots are positively geotropi that they will bend and grow downwords, towards the centre of the Earth .In contrast,shoots are negatively geotropi that is they will bend and surface. The tendency of plant stems and other part to grow upwards is Negative geotropi.

The stem of a plant always show negative geotropism i.e, it grows upwards against the pull of gravity. This movement of stem facilitates the leaves to get exposed so that they are able to attain maximum sunlight.
