{\Large{\underline{\underline{\bf{Question :}}}}}

What must be subtracted from 6 \dfrac{4}{5} to get 1 \dfrac{7}{10} ?

{\Large{\underline{\underline{\bf{Answer:}}}}}

Understanding the question :-

  • Here it is given that (6 )4/5 is subtracted by unknown number which will give (1) 7/10. Suppose as example 6 - ___ = 10. Here it is same like that but it is given in form of statement. We need to find value of unknown number.

Assumption :-

  • Let's assume unknown number as x .

Given :-

  • 6 \cfrac{4}{5}

  • 1 \cfrac{7}{10}

To find :-

  • A number that would be subtracted to get 1 \dfrac{7}{10}

Solution :-

First we have to make equation such that we can get equal value of LHS and RHS after solution.

{\large{\sf{ \ratio\longmapsto{6 \cfrac{4}{5}  \:  \: -  \: x  = 1 \cfrac{7}{10} }}}}

Converting mixed fraction into simple fraction.

{\large{\sf{ \ratio\longmapsto{ \cfrac{34}{5}  \:  \: -  \: x  =  \cfrac{17}{10} }}}}

On LHS side, let's do LCM of 5 and 1. After doing, LCM will be 5. Taking 5 as common on LHS side.

{\large{\sf{ \ratio\longmapsto{ \cfrac{34 - 5x}{5}  =  \cfrac{17}{10} }}}}

Cross Multiplication of 5 and 10 with each other.

{\large{\sf{ \ratio\longmapsto{ {10(34 - 5x)}=  {5(17)}}}}}

Further solving the eqation.

{\large{\sf{ \ratio\longmapsto{ 340 - 50x=  85}}}}

{\large{\sf{ \ratio\longmapsto{  - 50x=  85 - 340}}}}

{\large{\sf{ \ratio\longmapsto{  - 50x=  - 255}}}}

Minus and Minus will be cancelled.

{\large{\sf{ \ratio\longmapsto{   50x=  255}}}}

Dividing 255 by 50.

{\large{\sf{ \ratio\longmapsto{   x=   \cfrac{ 255}{50}}}}}

Or value of x would be :-

 \underline{ \boxed{{\large{\bf{ \red{ \ratio\longmapsto{   x=   \cfrac{ 51}{10} = { \boxed{5 \frac{1}{10} }} }}}}}}}

VERIFICATION :-

It can be verified by putting in above equation.

{{\sf{ \ratio\longmapsto{ \cfrac{34}{5}  \:  \: -  \: x  =  \cfrac{17}{10} }}}}

{{\sf{ \ratio\longmapsto{ \cfrac{34}{5}  \:  \: -  \:  \cfrac{51}{10}   =  \cfrac{17}{10} }}}}

{{\sf{ \ratio\longmapsto{ \cfrac{68 - 51}{10}   =  \cfrac{17}{10} }}}}

{{\sf{ \ratio\longmapsto{ \cfrac{17}{10}   =  \cfrac{17}{10} }}}}

Or

{{\sf{ \ratio\longmapsto{ 1.7  = 1.7 }}}}

Here LHS = RHS

So, value of x is correct.
