Given that :-

ABC is a equilateral triangle,in which AB = a, AC= a, or BC= a and angle ADC = 90 °

To find :-

AD

Proof :-

Now, In ∆ ADC, in which

AC = a

DC = a/2 ( because BC = BD + DC and BC = a, so DC= BD = a/2)

Now,

In ∆ ADC,

AC2 = AD2 + DC2 ( Using phythagerous theroem)

a2 = AD2 + a/2 2

a2 = AD2 + a2 /4

so, AD2 = a2 - a2 /4

AD2 = 4a2 /4 - a2 /4 ( By Taking LCM)

AD2 = 4a2 - a2/ 4

AD2 = 3a2 /4

or

AD = √ 3a2/4

AD = a/2 √ 3

Hence proved......
