Anglo-Mysore Wars (1766-99)

In the last three decades of the eighteenth century, the British got involved in a conflict with the powerful kingdom of Mysore which was ruled by Haider Ali and his son, Tipu Sultan. Between 1766 and 1799, four wars were fought with Mysore. These wars are known as the Anglo-Mysore Wars. Finally in 1799, in the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War, Tipu Sultan was defeated by the British. Tipu died defending his capital Seringapatam . It is said that Tipu Sultan was a progressive and benevolent monarch.
