Global warming, also referred to as climate change, is the observed century-scale rise in the average temperature of the Earth's climate system and its related effects. Multiple lines of scientific evidence show that the climate system is warming. Many of the observed changes since the 1950s are unprecedented in the instrumental temperature record, which extends back to the mid-19th century, and in paleoclimateproxy records of climate change over thousands of years .

Each year, scientists learn more about the consequences of global warming, and many agree that environmental, economic, and health consequences are likely to occur if current trends continue. Here’s just a smattering of what we can look forward to:

Melting glaciers, early snowmelt, and severe droughts will cause more dramatic water shortages and increase the risk of wildfires in the American West.Rising sea levels will lead to coastal flooding on the Eastern Seaboard, especially in Florida, and in other areas such as the Gulf of Mexico.Forests, farms, and cities will face troublesome new pests, heat waves, heavy downpours, and increased flooding. All those factors will damage or destroy agriculture and fisheries.Disruption of habitats such as coral reefs and Alpine meadows could drive many plant and animal species to extinction.Allergies, asthma, and infectious disease outbreaks will become more common due to increased growth of pollen-producing ragweed, higher levels of air pollution, and the spread of conditions favorable to pathogens and mosquitoes.

‘Global Warming’ means the annual increase in the average temperature of the earth by .a small margin. This may apparently seem little, but in reality, it is enough to cause havoc to our planet. This is caused mostly by the increase of green house gases like carbondioxide and methane in the atmosphere. By accumulating in the atmosphere, these gases prevent heat from being radiated from the earth. This results in an increase in temperature of the earth and melting of the polar ice caps and glaciers of the world. Scientists thus foresee a rise in'the level of water by several meters which would cause many islands and coastal regions to be erased from the map. Reduction in the emission of harmful green house gases, especially those that harm the ozone layer like carbon monoxide and sulphur dioxide, is imperative (W WSW).
