it refers to time .
living another persons life should most probably have mean that : we are busy to copy others and their behaviour . without having time to reflect ourselves .

Self explanatory. What Steve Jobs meant was, "do what you love to do, and not what others want you to do?" Don't waste your time trying to impress others, instead think about what you love to do and go on about doing it.
