Plant contain hormone called auxin which is synthesised at the shoot tips and is responsible for the growth of plant.auxin always gets accumulated to the shady side of the plant.this results in the growth of the plant from one side that is the shady side and underdevelopment of the other part that is towards light so as a result of this the plant bends towards the light and shows phototropism
