Throw a ball in air, energy in air, energy given by you will be converted in KE of ball, at highest point all energy is converted in to potential energy. Then it begins to fall and potential energy slowly and slowly converted in to KE, at ground whole energy is converted in to Kinetic energy . At ground it stops suddenly so energy is converted in to heat and sound.

Motion of a simple pendulam, at centre whole energy is KE and at extreme ends whole energy becomes PE. In between them total energy = PE+ KE.

A book falls from table to ground PE is converted in to KE.
