In desert plants the stomata remain open at night. They take up CO2 at night which is stored in the form of an intermediate which is used during the day for photosynthesis when stomata remains closed. The chlorophyll of such plants are located in stem and the leaves are reduced to spines and ultimately the stem takes the function of photosynthesis.
