Answer:

The Storage of products in an orderly manner is known as 'Merchandising'. It is a function of Retail. In general, a lot of terms are being used interchangeably.

Let's understand this through an example -

Imagine you visit a Kirana outlet. The manner in which the owner maintain the products inside the outlet is the art of Merchandising. How does he get the products? There are various salesman of companies who keep visiting his outlet to take orders or else he might go to the market to buy products basis his customer target market in the vicinity that his outlet serves. This is Sales.

When the salesman comes and he tries to get the attention of the owner to display his products in a certain fashion or else allow him to do sampling to the outlet's consumers or display banners and danglers in the outlet...this is part of Marketing initiative.

Following the art of Merchandising does save a lot of time, effort and money of the consumers since they are able to see with clarity what they need, what are the kind of offers that might be suitable for the consumers etc. Thus, bigger the size of the outlet, easier it becomes.

One of the primary reason for the  humungous growth of the online marketplaces is the same since effective marketing techniques has helped sellers to get their products displayed right on the landing pages leading to attention and sales.

Hope this has helped you...
