I was sitting at the window-seat with my book and a cup of coffee. The raindrops hit and rolled down the clear glass. A constant pitter-patter of rain was heard everywhere. My cat, Petrichor, snuggled in my lap. We both loved rain.

But this time it was something different. The clouds obscured the remaining light from the setting sun and the sky grew grim. Darkness shrouded the landscape outside. The drizzle took form of a freshet. The dense raindrops impaired my vision, creating an opaque wall between me and the world outside.

The lights flickered. Then, came a thunder which took away the light with it. My hand reached out to caress Petrichor; she had always been afraid of thunder. But instead of the soft, warm fur, my hand was greeted by emptiness and chill of the air. My cat was gone.

I stood up. I let my eyes get used to the darkness which surrounded me. I could make out shapes and silhouettes but no details reached my eye. I made my way through the tenebrous labyrinth of furniture.
"Petrichor!" I called out.
I heard the china in the rack shattering. I immediately turned back expecting my cat but again, i was greeted by nothing.

From the corner of my eye I could see something moving and I tried to avoid it.

I made my way to the oak bureau, occasionally bumping into pieces of furniture. I opened the drawer. My hand felt the familiar shape of my flashlight. I picked it. I looked for my pet with my flashlight illuminating my path. Where could she be?

That's when I heard something upstairs which vaguely sounded like footsteps. I rushed up the stairs. The first-floor landing opened in a corridor with three doors. One of them was ajar.

I opened the bathroom door.
My flashlight beam shone upon the bathtub.
I froze in horror.
My heart broke.
My cat laid there in a pool of blood.

I turned to leave but I caught a glimpse of the mirror. There was someone behind me.

And that's how I died. On a perfect, stormy evening when all was dark. My scream was shrouded by the pluvial sound which filled the ghostly darkness.
