- Ashoka conquered Kalinga in 260 BCE. The Battle of Kalinga was the most destructive war in the history of ancient times. The scenario after the war made him self realized about the destruction he had done . He witnessed mass deaths of people .
- In the subsequent years he got inclined towards Buddhism. He gave up violence and embraced Buddhism for the inner peace. To repent his mistakes Ashoka started to propagate the teachings of Buddha and worked for the welfare of the people.
