Published in 1802, it tells the story of a 14th-century attempt by the Abbot of Aberbrothok ("Aberbrothock") to install a warning bell on Inchcape, a notorious sandstone reef about 11 miles (18 km) off the east coast of Scotland.

A dangerous rock ……..caused many ships ‘drown’ in the deep sea……… a holy man tied a bell to be rung at the time of fearful storm ………..many a ship saved………. a wicked man cut the bell and met his end by striking against the same rock ………..the nasty rock proved his death- knell.
