Answer:

The Howls were growing louder as we approached the strange building and the smell of urine was evident. Boul water stained stepping stones led up to an old wooden doorway of which we walked through. The ground was wet under my paws. A lady, maybe in her sixties, came out to greet us. The woman and my master exchanged a few words before my master left.

“Come along now Molly” the woman said with no more to say to my master. It would have been soothing if it were not for her sympathetic facial expression. I knew this was not going to be an enjoyable stay.

The woman led me through a long, stretching, hallway past many other dogs, into a little encaged room. It would have been about the same size as a room that would usually contain a toilet, and it smelled like that too. The room was empty aside from a bowl of murky water that was there waiting for me. Metal creaked as iron bars slammed in front of me, barely missing my nose. The dogs across from me, blue heelers, must have been about twice the size of me and were barking like crazy, not pleased with a new visitor.

Night was even more terrifying. Rain pelted down on the tin roof and the structure of the building wasn’t enough to stop the water from leaking through. Thunder shook the windows and lightning could be seen across the sky.

The rain had ceased by midday the next day and so the prisoners of the dreaded kennel, including me, were left to roam outside. At first all I noticed was the extensive grass. It covered the whole area and had strangled any plants or weeds that dared grow there. It was relentless. Then I saw something that caught my eye, a gap in the fence where a wooden plank had been before the storm. Now was my chance. I bolted though the grass to the fence before I was spotted and squeezed through. I had escaped. Now what?

The terrain on this side was mostly jagged rock and the scent of pine trees filled the air around me. I started running, I had no intent, all I knew was that I was free. That was before it all came crumbling down. Standing at the top of a limestone ditch, I underestimated the forces of nature. The rocks gave way underneath me and the world went spinning. Pain shot through my skull as I landed with a thud in the bottom of the ditch. My vision turned red as the blurry shapes danced before my eyes. The monotonous sound of my heart pounding against my chest drowned out all other noises, including my muffled cries. I turned around and glimpsed something familiar. It was my master. He picked me up and lowered me into his car. Everything was going to be okay. Then the world around me turned black.
