Story on Pride and Vanity bring disgrace and downfall

Anjali was a very pretty ten year old girl. She was praised by everyone for her good looks. But, she was not conceited about it. She had a lot of friends with whom she had nice times together.  However, as she grew older, the comments kept increasing. As a result, she became proud and vain about it. She took no chance to comment about someone who was plain and ordinary looking. Also, she stopped talking to anyone who was dark complexioned. All these made her friends slowly withdraw from her. However, she did not change herself.

One day, Anjali fell down when running in the school playground. She had a big wound on her face. When her parents took her to the doctor, they said that he will have to do a few stitches. He also mentioned that it would leave a scar on her face. Anjali felt so sad that her looks would be affected and she started crying. But, there was nothing that could be done. All those who were once her friends came to see her and started commenting how the scar had affected her looks. Slowly, Anjali understood her mistake and apologized to her friends. They were very happy that Anjali had changed herself and once again allowed her to join there company. In turn, Anjali understood that while it felt nice to be pretty, everyone was actually good looking in his/her own way.
