That morning, Arvind's father had mercilessly beat Arvind's mother because she had misplaced some money. Arvind was shocked at the sight of his father beating his mother continuously. Arvind had never seen his father even shout at his mother. But that day,it was a very different view altogether. He could not resist peeping into his parents' room to find out the reason for his mother's loud and muffled screams.

What he had witnessed was something too much for his young mind to comprehend. He saw something he was not supposed to see, and now the thought made him feel insecure. He was late for school and decided to take a short cut through the alleys. He knew the alleys at the back of his mind. But today was not like any other day. The alley was not entirely deserted. Arvind could hear two men engaged in a heated conversation. He slowly moved towards the voices. He could now see the two men who were furiously exchanging words. And then that terrible thing happened. Thinking about it made Arvind shiver. The hair on his neck stood. He felt goosebumps. One of the men took out a knife and slashed the other man's throat. Blood splurted out on the walls. Arvind let out a shriek. The man turned towards Arvind and he was suprised. Suddenly he sprang towards Arvind and Arvind started running. Arvind ran like the wind. The shock and terror of the scene pumped adrenaline into his bloodstream. The man lost Arvind. Having the knowledge of the alleys helped Arvind get away from the gruesome scene. Arvind was jolted awake by his friend. The school had finished. He spent the entire day thinking about the morning. Walking out of the school Arvind felt paranoid that he was being watched by that man. The moment he reached home he told his parents everything in one single breath. Shocked by this his parents instantly contacted the police. Arvind described the man in detail to the sketch artist. The police assured him that he will remain safe. But as Arvind lay in his bed that night, he knew there were nightmares waiting for him to fall asleep.
