"Iswaran the Storyteller" is a short story written by  R. K. Laxman. This story has two characters namely Mahendra and his cook Ishwaran. Ishwaran is a avid reader and also a story teller. Mahendra works as a supervisor. He listens to all his stories.

One morning Iswaran was  asked to prepare something special for the dinner by Mahendra. At night, he appreciated Iswaran on his cooking skills as the food served were so tasty. At that time, unexpectedly Iswaran informs Mahendra about this site being a burial ground with human skulls scattered around the path.He likewise expresses that this spot is spooky and he has seen a female phantom with a foetus in her grasp.

Mahendra criticizes him advising not to trust this nonsense. But,from that day on, he became so uneasy regarding this and even assumed the ghostly experience he saw was just a trick played by his subconcious mind. Next day Ishwaran confirms the fact that Mahendran, has infact seen the ghost yesterday night. This leads Mahendran to resign his job and planning to vacate from that place. This story is mixture of both horror and superstitious beliefs.
