Sanyogita was a very quiet 10 year old girl. She had no friends in her class and she always had books to give her company. Although she used to feel lonely at times she never complained to anyone. Her classmates came from rich families while she was the daughter of a clerk in a government office. She used to study hard so that she would get good marks in her exams.

One day, there was a short circuit in a room in her school. No one noticed this and it soon caused a fire in the campus. Everyone panicked and ran out of the building. They did not bother about a small lame girl Rohini who could not move fast like the others. Rohini and Sanyogita used to smile at each other occasionally. Because of this, Sanyogita realized that Rohini was still inside the building. She immediately ran to Rohini’s class and carried her out of the building even as the flames came closer to them. Even though Sanyogita suffered some minor burns, she was happy that she could rescue Sanyogita.

Soon after the incident, the school principal got a circular from the Education Minister asking to nominate a student who displayed a bravery act. The principal did not have to think twice. And so, on Republic Day, with tears of joy and pride, the 10 year old Sanyogita received the National Bravery Award from the Prime Minister.

Tale of a  Brave Little Girl

Sanyogita, the 10 year old girl of the village was considered as a timid, shy, and reticent girl by nature. No body in the village believed she could do such a daring act! But she did it surprised all!

There had been a heavy rain for the past few days. Since the schools had been closed as a precaution against flash-floods, little Sanyogita had nothing to keep her much occupied. Sitting for hours together inside the home was boring and monotonous. She wanted to see the flooded river; dodging everyone’s eye she sneaked out to have a look a look at the river in spate.

As she walked along on the raised sidewalk along the inundated road to the river in the drizzle, her heart beat faster with fear and excitement mixed. She was wondering whether she was doing the right thing. From the distance she could he hear the river roaring. No sooner she saw the river she was scared to see the mighty current in full swell carrying myriad of broken trees, branches, animals that were doomed to be drowned. Precariously she went closer to the edge. There was no one around.

Suddenly her eyes were caught by something moving just near the bank. She looked closely at it; a six-year old girl was struggling very hard to swim up to the bank. But the strong current was pulling her away from the bank. She was deeply moved. She sprang into action. She looked around to see if there was any branch or log she could take hold of. Luckily she found one; she shoved it as farther as he could towards the drowning girl. After much effort she succeeded in getting on to it and climbing upon it came onto the bank. She thanked Sanyogita. Soon, the news of her timely action and bravery reached far and wide. Her name was recommended for the National Bravery Award. Not only the approval came quickly, the Prime Minister himself lauded her profusely while handing her the ward.

With tears of joy and pride the 10 year old Sanyogita received the National Bravery Award.
