The farmer was sitting at the shade of his favourite tree, he sat there everyday. Suddenly a sound came from somewhere "my dear farmer you come here everyday and water me everyday, how can I show my gratitude to you?". The farmer was startled he said " A talking tree! am I going mad!". No, dear farmer you are not going mad, I am really a talking tree" said the tree. Then the tree said again " Ask me anything, dear. I would help you attain that". The farmer thought for a while and said " can you give me a unicorn, my daughter loves unicorns. It is her birthday tomorrow." The tree said " 'I' don't have a unicorn, but my friend mermaid does. You can take one of my fruit and drop it in the river across the mountain. Then the mermaid will come and ask what you want and then she will give you a baby unicorn.
The farmer heard this and said goodbye to the tree and he set off for the river. It was evening when he reached the river. He dropped the tree's fruit and in a few minutes came the most beautiful creature had seen in his entire life, a mermaid!. The mermaid asked politely "what do you want? dear human?" and then the farmer said what he wanted. After the mermaid heard the farmer's wish, the mermaid turned to the other side of the river and whistled. Then came running a cute little unicorn. The farmer said thank you to the mermaid and took the unicorn and went home. He gave the unicorn to his daughter the next day and she was really happy. From then on the farmer went to the tree and talked for a while.
