Structure of lysosome :-

  • They are membrane bound organelles and the area within the membrane is called the lumen .

  • The lumen contains the hydrolytic enzymes and other cellular debris .

  • The sizes of lysosomes typically range from 0.1 μm to 0.6 μm .

Function of lysosomes :-

  • It breaksdown or digest macromolecules like carbohydrates , lipids , proteins and nucleic acids .

  • It repairs cell membranes and respond against foreign substances such as bacteria , virus , etc...

  • It contain enzymes that break down the macromolecules and foreign invaders .
