Solar cooker uses solar energy to heat and cook food. Most commonly used is box type solar cookers which is shown in figure. The solar cooker consists of a box, glass cover, plain mirror reflector and cooking containers.

Working: The box contains a transparent sheet of covering. The cooker is placed under sunlight and the mirror should be adjusted in a prior way to reflect the sunlight directly in the food through the transparent glass sheet.

The blackened inside surface of the wooden box absorbs the IR rays form the sun light and increases the temperature of the surface upto 100 degree Celsius. The food in turn absorbs the heat and get cooked.
