The structure of collenchyma is similar to parenchyma but it is characterized by the deposition of extra cellulose at the corners of the cells. Collenchyma is a mechanicaltissue, its main function is to provide support to those organs where it is found. It is found in the outer regions of cortex (stems, petioles).

The main function of parenchymatous tissue is assimilation and storage of reserve food material ( starch , fats , protein etc ). Parenchyma cells provide rigidity to plant body due to turgitidy and help to maintain shape and firmness of body . Collenchyma is chief supporting tissue in young dicotyledons stem
