Leaf has a flattened surface due to which it has a large surface area. There are present many stomata on the surface of leaf. This helps in gaseous exchange and transpiration. The veins of leaves carry the vascular bundles, thus helping in the function of transportation.

Answer:

The main function of leaf is photosynthesis and the shape of the leaf complements this function.

The shape of the leaf is flat which maximize the surface area of the leaf and helps in absorption of sunlight by chlorophyll.

The flat and thin structure of a leaf also helps in diffusion of gases (oxygen and carbon dioxide) in and out of the cells.

It also aids in transpiration by which water is pulled up and transported from roots to the photosynthetic site in the leaves.
