The caudal fin of leopard sharks functions in a manner consistent with the classical model of heterocercal tailfunction in which the caudal surface moves at an acute angle to the horizontal plane, and hence is expected to generate lift forces and torques which must be counteracted anteriorly by the body and pectoral .

The anal/coacal fin is located on the ventral side behind the anus/cloaca.This fin is used to stabilize the fish while swimming. The adipose fin is a soft, fleshy fin found on the back  behind the dorsal fin and just of the caudal fin.
