Rules to draw Lewis dot structure:

•        Initially, we need to determine the number of valence electrons a molecule has in each atom. Like carbon dioxide, there are four valence electrons in each carbon. Oxygen has six electrons of valence.

•        Then we need to arrange the electrons in a order to form a single bond between each atom so that each atom contributes one electron.

•        Finally, count each atom's electrons. If each of them has 8 or an octet, the octet will be complete.
