Micelle formation is caused by the molecules which have both hydrophilic and hydrophobic parts.Soap and Sodium or potassium salt of long chains of fatty acid such that they polar part.

Micelle formation is not seen when soap is dissolved in hydrocarbons. However it structure will be opposite to that seen in water.

The ionic or hydrophilic end is pointed inside. while the carbon chain or hydrophobic end is pointed outwards.
