2. The outer membrane is smooth, while the inner membrane is folded .

3. The folding of the inner membrane is called cristae.

4. In-between the 2 membranes lies the intermembrane space .

5. The inner membrane consists of F0 and F1 particles which are prime constituents of the ATPase enzyme.

6 The inner membrane also contains 4 protein complexes responsible for cellular respiration and formation of ATP.
