Neobutane and Isobutane
- Butane is an alkane with the molecular formula . It is composed of 4 carbon atoms at the center surrounded by 10 hydrogen atoms.
- The structural isomers of the compound have the same molecular formula with the different alignment of the atoms.
- Accordingly, it has two structural isomers namely neo-butane and Iso-butane.
- The structure of neo-butane is linear and it is straight. The prefix "neo" depicts the arrangement of all carbon atom in the straight line.
- On the other hand, the structure of iso-butane is branched and is not straight.
- The prefix "iso" means among all the carbon atoms, one is not involved in the continuous chain structure.
- The structure of neobutane and isobutane is given in the attachment.
