Pentan-1-ol is a derivative of pentane.

From pentane, if we replace one hydrogen atom and attach the hydroxyl (-OH) group, then we get the above organic compound.

If hydroxyl group is attached to 1st carbon atom, then it become necessary to specify it's position.

Then the name becomes : Pentan-1-ol
