Atomic Particles. Atoms consist of three basic particles: protons, electrons, and neutrons. The nucleus (center) of the atom contains the protons (positively charged) and the neutrons (no charge). The outermost regions of the atom are called electron shells and contain the electrons (negatively charged).

An atom is made up of:-

\bold{=>\:Protons}

(Protons are positively charged.)

\bold{=>\:Neutrons}

(Neutrons have no charge.)

\bold{=>\:Electrons}

(Electrons are negatively charged.)

Protons and neutrons make up the nucleus of the atom and electrons revolve around it.

If the atom has equal number of protons and electrons,

\bold{Then,}

It is electrically neutral.
