Ovule, plant structure that develops into a seed when fertilized. In gymnosperms (conifers and allies) the ovules lie uncovered on the scales of the cone. In angiosperms (flowering plants), one or more ovules are enclosed by the ovary (portion of the carpel, or female reproductive organ).

A flower is a plant's reproductive structure. One major part is the carpel, the female reproductive structure that includes the ovary . Inside the ovary is an ovule that, when fertilized, will develop into a seed. A seed contains an embryo (baby plant), theendosperm (food for the embryo), and a seed coat.
