STRUCTURE OF XeF5:-

》Central atom = Xe .

No of valence electrons = 8.

》No of bond pairs = 5.

》No of lone pairs = 3.

》Hybridization = sp3d3

GEOMETRY: - Pentagonal bipyramidal.

Structure of XeF₅¯ and XeO₃F₂ respectively are ;

(1) Pentagonal planar. trigonal bipyramidal

(2) Pentagonal planar, trigonal bipyramidal

(3) Trigonal bipyramidal, pentagonal planar

(4) Trigonal bipyramidal, trigonal bipyramidal

solution : let see geometry of XeF₅¯

no of bond pairs = no of atoms attached to its central atom = 5

no of lone pairs = (no of Valence electrons - 8 × no of bond pairs )/2

= [(8 + 7 × 5 + 1) - 8 × 5 ]/2

= 2

here no of bond pairs is 5 and lone pairs is 2

so hybridisation is sp³d³ and shape of it is pentagonal planar

now let's see geometry of XeO₃F

no of bond pairs = 3 + 2 = 5

no of lone pairs = [8 + 3 × 6 + 7 × 2 - 8 × 5]/2

= [8 + 18 + 14 - 40]/2

= 0

here no of bond pairs is 5 and lone pairs is 0 therefore the hybridisation of molecule is sp³d and shape of it is trigonal bipyramidal

Therefore the correct option is (1)
