During Revolution:

The motion of earth around the sun is an example of curvilinear motion, more specifically circular motion.

  • If any object moves along a curved path without change in its orientation, its motion is called circular motion.

  • Circle is a 2D figure which is also a curve. So, we can clearly say that they are showing circular motion. The sun is in any of the focii.

During Rotation:

The motion of earth around its axis is called rotational motion. Here the object spins around a fixed axis.

  • The orientation in rotational motion changes continuously like in case of earth also. The day and night are changing for different places across the world.

Explore more:

  • The particles of the object move through unequal distances in a given time, depending on their location.

  • The particle which is located near the axis of rotation, covers less distance as compared to the ones far away from the axis.

Answer:

*Revolution*

Earth spins around its axis, just as a top spins around its spindle. This spinning movement is called Earth's rotation. At the same time that the Earth spins on its axis, it also orbits, or revolves around the Sun. This movement is called revolution.
