Answer: Here when few pieces of marble is added in HCL then the following reaction takes place,

Marble - CaCO3

CaCO3 + 2HCl --> CaCl2 + H2O +

CO2

The reaction is balanced .

in this reaction cacl2 ,water and CO2 is formed because when any metal carbonate react with acid then it gives salt water and carbon dioxide .

now when the gas evolved is passed through lime water then it will turn milky due to the formation of calcium carbonate.

Lime water is Ca(OH)2

Ca(OH)2 + CO2 = CaCO3 + H2O

The above reaction is balanced.
