STUDENT INDISCIPLINE

One of the greatest problems haunting our country today is the problem of growing indiscipline among the students. This has become a worldwide phenomenon today. Students are the promises of tomorrow. The future of a country rests in their hands. If they are in disciplined, it will harm the country and arrest the national progress. If not checked well in time, it will eat into the vitals of national health.

The unrest among the students is only a reflection of the despair in society. The educational system prevailing in the country is not good enough to meet the needs and aspirations of the students. They feel that the education given to them in schools and colleges is not worth the trouble. It is difficult for them to get a job with the existing educational system. Those who resort to malpractices in the examination come out first and this makes the hardworking students disappointed. It is the people with recommendation or money who bag all the good jobs. Politicians exploit the students to gain their political ends. If they have to organize a strike or a demonstration, they approach the students. The false respect given to those by politicians make the students follow those false masters blindly. All these cause unrest among the student community.

The indifferent and irresponsible attitude of some teachers causes indiscipline among the students. They do not take much interest in effective teaching. It is true that they are paid less. They do not find enough time to guide and recognize the students. Students who thirst for approval and recognition will resort to cheap methods to get importance. Parents are too busy with their works to find time to attend to their children. As a result, the students move about like sheep without a shepherd.

The indiscipline among the students is actually a reflection of the indiscipline in the society. Students see corruption everywhere in the society. There is too much corruption in the education department and the universities. Examinations have become a farce. A few students are sheltered by politicians. The politicians, bureaucrats and the businessmen try to become rich overnight. This tendency corrupts the students also.

Students have a dream of an enlightened society free from conservatism. They want to change the face of the world. So they oppose corruption. The examples placed before them are not worth respecting. So they revolt against the existing system. The society must rise to the occasion to undo the evils and to undo the indiscipline among the students.
