Given :

  • Distance d₁ = 2.5 km = 2500 m
  • Distance d₂ = 0.5 km = 500 m
  • Time t₁ = 50 minutes = 3000 seconds
  • Time t₂ = 2.5 minutes = 150 seconds

To find :

  • Average speed

Solution :

  • We know that,

        distance = speed × time

     Speed = distance ÷ time

  • Also,

        Average speed = (total distance traveled) ÷ (total time taken)

     ∴ Average speed = (2500+500)÷(3150)

                                   = 0.95 m/s

                                   = 0.95 × (18/5) km/hr

                                   = 3.492 km/hr

Answer : The average speed throughout the journey will be 3.492 km/hr.
