Take some dry gram seeds in a petri dish. Soak the gram seeds in plain water and keep them overnight. Drain the excess water. Cover the soaked seeds with a wet cotton cloth and leave them for a day. Cut open the soaked seed and observe its different parts. Gram is dicot plant and its seed has seed coat and embryo (two cotyledons, epicotyl, hypocotyl and radicle).

The three primary parts of a seed are the embryo, endosperm, and seed coat. The embryo is the young multicellular organism before it emerges from the seed. The endosperm is a source of stored food, consisting primarily of starches. The seed coat consists of one or more protective layers that encase the seed.
