students are studying how two substances react. The students mix substance 1 with substance 2 in a solution. Later the students boil the solution, releasing substance 1 as a gas and leaving substance 2 as a solid. What type of change is described in the paragraph above? How do you know? This is a physical change, because the two substances were separated physically by boiling. This is a chemical change, because the two substances were mixed together. This is a chemical change, because the two substances were separated chemically by boiling. This is a chemical change, because a gas was released. Question 12 (1 point) Question 12 Unsaved

Chemical change can be defined as formation of new compounds after the reaction occurs. Here, no new compounds are formed after the reaction thus, no chemical change has occurred here.
Now physical change is the change in state of a compound (like solid to liquid, liquid to gas, solid to gas etc.). Here initially the physical states of substance 1 and 2 can be liquid as those are mixed to form a solution. But afterwards Substance 1 becomes gas and Substance 2 becomes solid. Thus it can be clearly seen that physical change has occurred.
Thus option (A) is correct.
