Plastic, plastic everywhere in our cities, towns, colonies, rivers, oceans, lakes, hill-stations, parks, gardens, public transportation systems, railway stations, public toilets, etc.,

Students, who are so energetic and dedicated to anything they feel drawn towards, can do phenomenal work in making environment plastic free a successful campaign. The best way to begin this drive is to make our own room, cupboard, toilet, kitchen, etc. plastic free.

Students can make groups and go to those colonies where plots are being used as dumping grounds and involve people in plastic-free environment campaigns. They can form teams and carrying posters depicting negative effects of plastic on the general environment, they can hold seminars or street plays to sensitize people to myriad health related problems caused by plastic.

After launching the drive in the abovementioned manner, green campaign can also be launched in the similar manner. Students can form groups to plant trees first in the school. There are about 315 students in India, which makes them a very important part of society. Therefore, if so many individuals take an initiative together, they can undoubtedly make a huge difference.

To begin with, the easiest way in which students can help in making the environment plastic free is simply by refusing to take plastic tiffins, bottles and pencil boxes to school. That in itself will bring down the usage of plastic considerably. Instead, they can opt for materials like steel and cloth.

Further, they can persuade and remind their parents to use jute or cloth bags instead of getting vegetables and groceries home in polythene bags. Since the youngster generation is a major food consumer in terms of packaged foods, if they wish, they could convince shopkeepers to use biodegradable bags. Students could also initiate social media campaigns and pressurize the local authorities to impose heavy penalties on those using polythene bags and on those caught littering.

Students can work in groups, under adult supervision and educate the economically weaker sections of society about the effect of plastic on our lives. People who do not have access to education need awareness while those who are aware need to be convinced to reduce the usage of plastic.
