Q. How is a seam of coal formed within a Rock?

Ans. Coal seams originate and are formed by the consolidation of biota, minerals, and natural chemicals through geologic time. Chemical and heat processes during mineral formation can also produce small pockets of nonsedimentary rock within the coal seam and surrounding rock such as iron pyrite, mica, and other minerals.

Q. What is a brown coal ?

Ans. Brown coal, broad and variable group of low-rank coals characterized by their brownish coloration and high (greater than 50 percent) moisture content. In Great Britain and other countries, the term brown coal is used to describe those low-rank coals (lignite and subbituminous coal) that generally have a brown colour.
